Handling and reach
The RM1015P is an older version of the newer RM1025SPS which added a new handle and trigger design and ability to adjust the pole length from both ends.
It has all the pros and cons of electric pole pruners – it’s relatively quiet, not expensive, very easy to use (push button start and only a little maintenance), you are not limited by battery running time and also don’t have to mix fuel. On the other hand, you have to drag a power cord to all places where you’d like to use it.
It’s easy to put together, the telescopic aluminium pole is fairly light and easy to operate – and with its maximum length of almost 10 feet it offers ca. 14 feet reach (depending on your height). However, when fully extended it becomes quite clumsy and hard to maneuver. That’s a common problem of all pole chain saws, but here it’s even a little worse – the motor is located at the end of the pole so the balance point gets farther from you so it requires some strength to use.
Also, some users reported a few quality problems, for example that some plastic parts (gears, sprocket or motor housing) wear out or bending of the chain guide.
Using the chainsaw alone
Power
It doesn’t have the gas performance of course, but the 8 Amp motor provides enough power for all tasks you’ll need to do. It cuts 7-8' limbs with ease, just make sure the chain is properly tightened (easy to do) and don’t push it too much against the branch – just let its own weight do the work.
Very nice feature is the ability to disconnect the saw from the pole and use it as a small chainsaw to cut the fallen limbs on the ground – not designed for some heavy cutting, but ideal when you need to cut some smaller branches and don’t want to take out a large saw just for them. And the conversion is tool-less and fairly quick.
It uses a push button oiler and the opinions about it are rather mixed – most users don’t mention any problems, some say it works well and some that it doesn’t lubricate the chain enough (and advise adding some oil manually or opening the hole in the reservoir a bit). Just a recommendation: if you don’t plan to use it often, drain the reservoir after each use (it’s quite small so not a problem) or put an old towel under the saw as it may leak oil a little when sitting.
Conclusion: If you want quality and inexpensive pole pruner and don’t mind using a power cord, Remington RM1015P will do the job – it is easy to use, has enough power and you can even use the saw separately. However, we would rather recommend you the newer upgraded version RM1025SPS.
Also, it is still intended mainly for occasional homeowner use – for heavy pruning, it would be wiser to get one of these.

Frequently asked questions:
Are there any accessories I should buy?
If you don’t have a long extension cord yet, go with the Coleman 100 feet cable.
Also, you would need some oil for the chain (it’s not included) – you can use the 30 weight motor oil for example.
Is there any maintenance needed?
You’ll need adjust the chain tension if needed (easy to do) and also oil the chain by filling the reservoir and pushing the button a few times before each use. The motor is an enclosed unit so no maintenance is required.
